Message from the Senior Pastor

#
Senior Pastor Tim Johnson

I keep thinking, "It Just Doesn't Get Any Better Than This" when I look at who New Cov. is becoming!!! I am so honored to be a part of leading a group of people who care about those less fortunate & you proved it again this past month by serving several social agencies in numerous ways through the month of April. Thank you for making this a part of your busy lives.

During the month of May, we will be re-opening our "Gifts with a Mission" store and providing items that are greatly needed by our chosen agencies. I loved it when we provided for them during the Christmas holidays, but their needs run through the entire year and I think it is so awesome that we can come alongside them again and find out what their needs are and then provide for them. Our SOS ministries will be setting up the store in our Gathering Space every weekend and you will find items for sale to meet the needs for Lincoln Crisis Pregnancy Center, The Good Neighbor Community Center, Fresh Start Home and Young Lives. Please plan to come early or linger after our worship services through the month of May and shop for those less fortunate. God will be honored through your selfless giving.

Our Externally Focused Church outlook will be reinforced on May 4th when Dan & Jamie Proffer will be visiting with us for the weekend. As you know, they were members at New Cov. and God called them to leave us for two years and serve outside the United States! They are back and we have arranged for them to share their story with us in our services that weekend. You won't want to miss this chance to reconnect with them.

Beginning Mother's Day and running through June, we will be looking closely at the teachings of Jesus called The Beatitudes found in Matthew 5:1-12. Our Celebrate Recovery Ministries have adopted these teachings as the foundation for recovery and we want to take some time to look at this counter cultural, paradoxical paradigm. Just a warning, embracing this outlook will create quite the tension & maybe even some dissonance in our lives.

I am committed to Living Like I Were Dying and to leading our church with that same filter in place. I have been very encouraged by those of you who are wrestling with this way of living as well and have appreciated hearing some of your stories.
