WORSHIP ARTS

Learn a bit more about worship at New Cov, and how to get involved...

Worship at New Cov

We tend to think of worship as the hour we gather on Sunday: singing to God, hearing God's word, responding through giving or communion, and being sent into the world. In a fuller sense, though, worship is our response to the revelation of God. At New Cov, we want to live in a way that responds to God constantly: we want to live lives of worship.

In a sense, when we gather, we are enacting God's story: we're hearing, remembering, singing, and experiencing it. The worship service forms us to hear, remember, proclaim and experience God in our every day lives, so that we can worship him with everything we are!

Sunday Morning

In any given worship service at New Cov, we have planned and rehearsed service elements to help you lean into God's goodness and will for your life. For example...

  • Hymns connect us to a rich and deep heritage of faith.
  • Modern Worship Songs give voice to our generation through a "new song."
  • Corporate Scripture Reading highlights God's word, unity of believers, and active worship.
  • Prayer joins our hearts in adoration, lament, thanksgiving, and/or petition.
  • The Message or sermon is an opportunity to hear God's word and consider its teachings.
  • Communion is celebrated monthly, and can be presented with themes of Jesus' presence, memorial, thanksgiving, or unity with Christ and with other believers.
  • We give our offerings to trust God with our finances and provide for ministry.
  • Baptism marks life in Jesus for a new believer, and remembers our own baptism.
  • In Child Dedications we commit to helping a family raise their children to know Jesus.

Beyond Sunday

The elements of the Sunday service form us to worship God. But how do we make worship a way of life? Here are some resources that might help:

Worship Resources

  • Bible App - Download this to your phone or access it online for reading plans, community, and many Bible translations.
  • My Utmost for His Highest - A daily devotional from Oswald Chambers. If you want to deepen your relationship with God, this classic is still relevant.
  • Every Moment Holy - Prayers for every moment, from the mundane and routine, to the unexpected joys and sorrows of life. We have used this in Sunday services at New Cov.

Worship Ministry Guiding Values

We want you to grow as disciples of Jesus as you serve. And all of us who are up front must humbly understand we are ambassadors, representatives, of Christ. So, we ask Worship Ministry volunteers to commit to spiritual growth and a code of conduct. Before you join the Worship Ministry, please read our Handbook.

Audition Process

We hold open auditions/interviews quarterly for instrumentalists, singers, tech team, and other creative artists. Here's the process:

  1. Application - Use the "Audition Form" button below to begin the process.
  2. Audition and/or Interview - Depending on where you'd like to serve, you may be asked to audition (musicians) or interview (tech and most creative arts). For more information, see the Worship Ministry Handbook.
  3. Trial Period - You may be asked to spend some time at rehearsals, training on equipment, working on your instrument or voice, etc., before serving on a Sunday.

Not everyone is suited to serve in the Worship Arts Ministry. If these teams aren't the best fit for you, we're happy to help you find other areas where you can serve within New Cov.
